Another obatron site on the web…

Okay, since it was GM’s Day, I got my wife to play a game with me (after all, I am the GM in our weekly game.) The setup and play of Battue was incredibly easy. She enjoyed the fact that really, the rules could be read in about 15 minutes, and probably by turn 2, the mechanics of the game were flowing. The game is for 2-4 people and takes about 60 minutes, I can say this is pretty accurate.

I wouldn’t say the game is highly strategic nor tactical. While luck plays a major role, there is some strategy to it. There are some random event cards that can help or hurt you (although in our game, I think it was hurt me and help her…wait, it was definately that.) Overall, we had fun, it was an entertaining game that I would liken to Risk, maybe a little easier.

The biggest plus, it played well with two players, unlike many of the games we’ve tried recently.

I bought this board game this weekend. The reviews on it were mixed, however, most agreed that it was fun if not a little to based on luck. The company that makes it is Red Juggernaut.

Opening the box you can see there is a lot of quality to the pieces and the packaging. While they didn’t use plastic, the cardboard separators were all heavy duty. So often, I get a board game that is flimsy cardboard or plastic and the pieces all end up everywhere or the top caves in.

The rule book was small, simple to read, had highlights, and covered questions I had or think I will have. It’s not a heavy strategy/tactics game by my cursory read of the rules. It might have as much as say Risk, or as little as Conquest of the Empire (an old (Mattel)? game that came out with Axis and Allies, Broadsides and Boarding Parties, etc.) Overall, it looks like it will be a lot of fun.
