I like a lot of different games, from computer, tabletop board games, to pen and paper roleplaying games. I prefer the latter for the creativity that it allows and encourages.
Books
There are a number of different genres of books that I favor, however, sometimes I will pick up things that are outside that favored list. I primarily read science fiction and fantasy, history, and classic literature. I will dabble on occasion in horror, biographies, modern literature, and even children’s literature ala Harry Potter, Tunnels, etc.
Video Games
I primarily like to play on the computer although I have tried various console systems. I currently have an XBox 360 with only 5 games, and I can say I only like 1 of them, Fallout III. For the PC, well, I have numerous titles, although the Baldur’s Gate and NWN games top my list as favorites. I have played the MMORPGs mostly Everquest, City of Heroes/Villians, and Eve Online. I’ve tried the others, however, they all eventually bore me with the repetititve hunting just to level thing. I think I enjoyed most in EQ was running around and seeing the world. I’ve since switched to the Mac and have not really done much PC gaming, although I wish I had something that I could play Baldur’s Gate, NWN, etc on just for old time’s sake. Added a Wii to the collection, another console game I don’t play much, but being able to play Zelda again made the purchase worth it.
Board Games
I have a number of board games, this will have a lot of them listed.
Other Games
One other area of gaming that I’ve tried is online RPG gaming via tools like OpenRPG, ScreenMonkey, etc. I haven’t tried pbem or pbp yet, I’m not sure I would find that as fun…the problem with the online tools are that they are centered around D&D (with good reason admittedly) and my current choice of games makes it a bit difficult to manage.
My interest in RPGs goes way back to the 80s when I bought my first RPG book, the AD&D Monster Manual at WH Booksmith in Pyramid Mall, Ithaca, NY. Oddly, even though I avidly purchased books, I didn’t get to play until well after college. I now have a fine collection of books (although i think I’ve hit critical mass and am thinking of a culling…) I have enough fun with this hobby, I have a whole section of my website devoted to it.
