Gentoo Linux

Fixing inability to shutdown/reboot from gnome menu One of the updates seemed to disable my ability to shutdown or reboot my Gentoo box from the System menu. The fix was to modify the file /etc/dbus-1/system.d/ConsoleKit.conf. I had to add the line: <allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager" send_member="GetSessions"/> I added it just before the following line because organizationally it [...]

Cleaning up my site a bit, preparing for spring maybe. removing some old blog posts removing twitter feed posts (I’m not feeling that public) picked a new theme to change things up reorganized categories and tags. I’m considering shutting down my development page due to lack of interest and time on my part as well [...]

4th Quarter Update/Year in Review

This was a relatively quiet quarter despite being the holiday season. There were no new revelations at Cornell other than “wait for it…wait for it…” We’re supposed to know more by April at which time we’ll be “re-imagined” into new organizational structures, made redundant, left with the bloody carcass of a once functional department, left [...]

3rd Quarter Update

This is a bit late, but who reads it anyway… This past quarter continued the trend of this tumultuous year. While no more pets were lost, there was a lot of turmoil at work and with friends lives. It was a cold wet summer (although I can’t complain about the cold part, it was kind [...]

Syncing Adium Chat Logs

I’ve long wanted to sync my Adium chat logs across the computers I use. There have been numerous methods that were “meh” at best. But then I had the idea of just creating a Log folder in my Dropbox folder and linking the Adium Log folder to it. This is what I did: Quit Adium [...]

2nd Quarter 2009 in Review

As indicated in the 1st Quarter review, the beginning of this quarter started with our dog’s death. We’ve decided that we will not likely get another dog for a number of reasons. Mainly that Risis’ personality was so unique it would never be the same. Despite the rough start, it was a largely uneventful three [...]

Great Quote

Saw this in someone’s signature…what a great quote! “Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways- Beer in one hand – Burger in the other – body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming [...]
